Things you may not know about Wikipedia

I found this link today and I think it is worth sharing. I leaned a couple of things I didn't know. So perhaps it might help you as well! Nine Cool Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do With Wikipedia. The thing I am loving the most is: Wikiversity:

Wikiversity provides tutorials and worksheets on subjects ranging from AJAX programming to Philosophy. Wikiversity is currently woefully incomplete, but many subject have lengthy, well-written tutorials.

There is some awesome information here.

Imagine

I have been busy these last couple of days playing with an internal LAN setup. It has been down right painful. I "love" GUI's which "know" what I really want *rolling eyes*. Every time I have it working just fine, I move on, and then within 10-30 Min's everything goes to shit.

That's not all, there have been a couple of personal things which have been plaguing me. All up I just can't seem to get it together at the moment. Not that I am complaining. There are so many hundreds of thousands of millions of people suffering more than I. I am just forgetting to look on the bright side of life.

Today here in Australia it is: Australia Day. A day on which we celebrate the slaughter of thousands of native people. What is this society coming to?
When are people going to see that we can't live this way? Humans will not survive if we don't work together. What makes Humans so powerful is that we have the capacity to work together, as a group, a collective. We could achieve so many things.

• Imagine how great our knowledge would be if we shared it between us all. (even the "sacred texts" the medical research papers, the things that others have decided that the public can't handle.)
  
• Imagine how far the space program would be if there where no monetary concerns.
• Imagine the new inventions which would develop if ideas where not locked down by massive companies, who have no intention of developing them.
• Imagine if ideas were free.
  
• Imagine the computer systems, if the company's shared ideas, and worked together.
• Imagine if children were not forced into institutions to learn "their place", but were treasured, their skills encouraged and their ideas listened to.
• Imagine if there was no money! No hording of possessions. So that some have all and most have none.
  
• Imagine if we lived with equality!
• Imagine that it didn't matter were you where born or how much money your family had. And that you still had a chance to share yourself with the world, to give to humanity, and your opinions counted.
• Imagine if we didn't step on the intelligent people, and make them feel worthless, and hopeless, that we encouraged there talents, and used there skills to help further humanity.
  
• Imagine the peace, the love, the laughing, the fun, the knowledge.
• Imagine having a friend who didn't want something from you.

Just imagine. I know I'm a dreamer.

I just don't get this society. I don't understand why we don't working together for the good of every one. The earth is not going to be around forever. We need to spread out, or humans will not survive. When are we going to stop these petty squabbles over land, money, religion, and realize that we are all human! We are the same species, and furthering our species should be more important than, money, actors, clothes, what fred is doing, guilt, or trying to be something society says is right.

9 Words representing the Most Important things that I have learned this year

It was my 27th Birthday yesterday, 27 on the 27th. I had a awesome day. My darling, made me yummy meals and beautiful apple pie (pictured left). I had a really wonderful day. I went to bed with a smile on my face.

Through out the day I was sitting and thinking, and I contemplated all of the things I have learned this year. There have been so many of them. It made me wonder if I could boil it all down to a few really important things that I have learned.

The Most Important things that I have learned this year.
This turned out to be a more difficult question than I realized. I started thinking through my achievements,
e.g. Giving up smoking and completing 2 diplomas.
I realized I was thinking way to low, and narrow. (That is Low thought process, and narrow field of perception.)
Well what did these achievements teach me?
e.g. About my health, and about cigarette damage. Or perhaps about project management, and dealing with teachers.
What where my failings and what did they teach me?
e.g. What plans didn't succeed? What ideas weren't implemented?
I still wasn't delving deep enough, there was more there. What lessons where learned? What inspired me?
All these are good questions, producing many answers, yet still there is way more. Then I stopped for a moment. As per usual I had forgotten the golden rule of 'keepen' it simple'.
I realized that I could think of 9 or 10 words to cover everything. Each word would represent which I have learned through out the year.

After doing this exercise I was truly amazed with the results. I slowly sat and looked over the words that I had chosen and realized that all of the lessons that I had learned this year fitted into them in one way or another. Also each word had at least one flip meaning, a warning, or balance.
As it is coming up to the end of the year, try this exercise for yourself and find out how much you have truly grown this year. I was amazed with what I found.

Today's Happenings

Today has not been the most productive of days online, today has been a day of sorting things out in the real world. I know shocking isn't it. I had to go and fill out paperwork and lots of other fun things :s. Yet I did manage to get some computer things done.

• First I had a look at TrueBSD, and wrote a short review on it.


• Also I found some really good Firefox2 tweaks at LifeHacker.org which are well worth a look if you haven't already: top-firefox-2-config-tweaks.


• I read through the following RFC, a couple of times:

That was about it for the day, apart from some general surfing around. One particular site that I found which took my breath away, and reminded me just how small this world is was spacetelescope.org. This is an amazing site check it out if you get a chance.
